What has 2020 taught us?

There is no way we could have known or prepared for the year we’ve had. We are experiencing a unique moment in history, and with the new year ahead, I wanted to share some of the learning and re-learning this year has brought.

In this episode, I discuss the significance of kindness, the impact of giving, the value of novelty, and so much more. As we reflect on these things, my hope is that you realize you are the greatest project you'll ever work on.

Sleep easy knowing that you can handle whatever this new year throws at you. And as always, may your days be filled with lots of life, lots of love, lots of laughter, and lots of learning.

Happy New Year!

How does food affect your mental health?

Now more than ever, people have become more health-conscious about diet and exercise as it pertains to matters like cholesterol, high blood pressure, or weight loss, but not many are discussing the connection between food, the brain, and its impact on mental well being.

Here to discuss this topic with us today is our phenomenal guest, Dr. Uma Naidoo. Uma is a Harvard trained psychiatrist, Professional Chef, and trained Nutrition Specialist. She is also the author of her brand new book; This is Your Brain on Food

You’ve heard it here before, that what you eat matters, especially to your grey matter. Join us, as Dr. Uma explains the physiological connection between the gut and brain and the powerful effects of food on our mental health and well being.

Can you minimize stress with meditation?

In today’s show, we welcome our extraordinary guest, international speaker, and best-selling author, Emily Fletcher. Emily is the founder of Ziva Meditation and the leading expert in meditation for performance.

In this episode, Emily enlightens us of the exponential power of meditation. She explains that mediation is not just a way to reset your day but also to reset your life physiologically.

Research has shown that it is a way to heal yourself on a cellular level from up to two generations of familial trauma. She assures us that you will get a greater return on your day and life overall if we take the time to reset.

Considering the year we have all had, let’s be sure to take great notes and then follow them with the action necessary for change.

How do you eat smarter for your brain?

Our brains are considered one of the most complex yet delicate systems in the universe, not to mention it’s the one organ that controls everything we do.

It makes sense then that we do all we can to protect it, right?

Today, I’m delighted to welcome back an exceptional guest, Shawn Stevenson, to discuss this topic. Shawn is the best-selling author of one of my favorite books, Sleep Smarter, and creator of the #1 Nutrition and Fitness podcast on iTunes, The Model Health Show

In this episode, Shawn reveals some pretty daunting statistics about how much added sugar we consume each year and just how it’s affecting our brains in a phenomenon called hypothalamic inflammation.

He also shares about his new book, Eat Smarter, where he empowers us to understand that there are specific foods that we can eat and things we can do to make our brains work better. According to Shawn, if we can get our brains healthy, we can get our bodies healthy.
